The CNCCS aims to create a European Collection of Chemical Compounds and a \u201cCentre of Excellence for research on rare, neglected and poverty-related diseases\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Consortium organized an important International Meeting on Molecular Biology Research that was held in Rome at the\u00a0<strong>\u2018\u2019Auditorium of the\u00a0 MAXXI Museum \u2019\u2019 Via G. Reni &#8211; November 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 29<sup>th<\/sup>, 2011.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with the Minister of Health\u00a0<strong>Prof. Ferruccio Fazio<\/strong>, the Minister for Foreign Affairs\u00a0<strong>Mr. Franco Frattini<\/strong>, the Minister of Education and Research,\u00a0<strong>Prof. Francesco Profumo<\/strong>, the Undersecretary for Research\u00a0<strong>Mr. Guido Viceconte<\/strong>, the President of Lazio Region\u00a0<strong>Ms. Renata Polverini<\/strong>, the European Commissioner for Health\u00a0<strong>Mr. John Dalli<\/strong>, the European Commissioner for Research\u00a0<strong>Ms. M\u00e1ire Geoghegan-Quinn,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0the European Commissioner for Industry\u00a0<strong>Mr. Antonio Tajani<\/strong>, the President of the Pontifical Council for Health Care\u00a0Workers\u00a0<strong>Mons. Zygmunt Zimowski<\/strong>, the President of the CNR\u00a0<strong>Professor Cristina Messa,\u00a0<\/strong>the President of \u00a0the Italian National Institute of Health<strong>Professor Enrico Garaci<\/strong>, the CHDI Foundation and Medicines for Malaria Venture, the first edition of the event took place in Rome on\u00a0<strong>November 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 29<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a02011<\/strong>\u00a0at the \u201cMAXXI Auditorium\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One hundred of the world\u2019s most important molecular biology scientists were invited to the meeting as guests of the organizers.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day, an \u201ceconometric study\u201d commissioned by the Consortium and carried out by the University of Florence in collaboration with\u00a0<em>IMT Alti Studi di Lucca<\/em>\u00a0was presented. The study dealt with issues such as: what is the impact of research on the economic growth of the region, how to measure the economic value of patents, what is the relationship between research and the territory in which it is carried out and the countries that benefit from the results in terms of know-how.<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, following a \u201clectio magistralis\u201d held by eminent scientists, there were several talks by researchers and policy makers on research in the field of rare and neglected diseases.<\/p>\n<p>On the second day, two Prizes of $ 80.000,00 each, sponsored by MSD Italy and Pfizer Italia,\u00a0 were awarded to two outstanding scientists: Ruggero De Maria, Scientific Director of the Istituto Nazionale Tumori Regina Elena, and Peter Vogt, Senior Vice President Scripps Institute of di San Diego, selected by a Prize Committee composed of famous scientists from Merck &amp;Co, Pfizer, Novartis, Harvard University, Thomas Jefferson University, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, the President of AIFA and the Nobel Prize Rita Levi Montalcini.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Award for the most innovative breakthroughs in 2010 The CNCCS Consortium is a joint venture of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), the Istituto Superiore di Sanit\u00e0 (ISS) and IRBM Science Park.
